Owning a car is a major responsibility. It is up to you to make sure that it functions properly so that everyone in the car is safe. This doesn't just mean that you need to drive safely; it means that you should be sure that the vehicle is safe to drive as well. This is done by recognizing the signs that your car needs repairs. Here are a couple things you should look for.

1. Smoking

Your car shouldn't be smoking when you drive it. If you notice smoke coming from the hood or the tailpipe you have a problem. This could mean that there is a problem with the engine and the more that you drive it without fixing the problem, the more damage you are doing to the car. The color of the smoke will also be important. If the smoke is black it means that the engine is using too much gas, if the smoke is white it could mean that the engine is overheating. Whatever the color, it is vital that you get your car in for repairs immediately. Otherwise you could cause serious damage and cost yourself more money in repairs.

2. Puddles of Fluid

Another thing to look for is leaking from the car. If you see puddles under the car while it is in park, or if there are drops of fluid coming from the car while you drive you could have a problem. If the fluid is black, this means that it is probably motor oil and you have a problem with your engine. If the fluid is pink or red it means that you are leaking transmission fluid. This is a sign that you need repairs right away.

If you cannot get repairs immediately, at the very least make sure that you are topping off the fluid. Running the car low on oil or transmission fluid could cause serious and expensive damage.

3. Loud Noises

If your car is making loud noises while you drive you need to take it into a mechanic. There could be a myriad of problems, for instance, the transmission could be dropping, the brakes could be giving out, and so much more. Grinding, clicking, or squealing are all signs that should be taken seriously. As a general rule your car should never make a lot of noise while you drive.

These are just a couple signs that you should look for to keep yourself and your car safe. If you suspect problems, contact a business such as Cadwalader Service Centre, Inc.
